art therapy

There is art and there is craft. Craft is about perfection, art is about expression.

As an art therapist, I support people in expressing their feelings through artistic and creative means.

Many clients who come to me are very skeptical at first. They got to know art classes at school and often associate it with being evaluated or judged. Once the pressure of having to put something "passable" on paper is gone, many are surprised at how working with paint, brush and paper brings out other sides of them.

Many tell me afterwards how painting helped them to relax or to distance themselves from their problems. Some find it a great relief to let their inner states become visible. Your own feelings and inner images are given space, conversations can arise and what sometimes seems inexpressible may become visible and thus be appreciated.

I see one of my tasks as accompanying people on their search for what they want to see, hear, feel or say.

Due to my specialization in the field of trauma therapy, I work specifically with the promotion and activation of resources. The design of a safe place and the development of helpful beings or protective beings that accompany people in the most difficult hours have proven themselves in my practice.

Mindfulness and meditation have become increasingly important in my work. Meditative painting or small breathing meditations can help to focus. We can have the experience of directing our attention and thus gaining distance from worries, fears or pain. With this we can counteract the powerlessness that overcomes us when we have the feeling of being helplessly at the mercy of situations.

Mindfulness empowers us and helps us gain control over what we can control: our thoughts, our judgments, our perspectives, and our actions.
